The Internet of Things (IoT) together with 5G and other communication technologies are creating a new structure of awareness – a cybernetic one – upon physical processes. Industries of different kinds are expected to join soon this revolution, leading to the so-called Factories of the Future or Industry 4.0. This workshop is focused on the advances of IoT-based industrial cyber-physical systems (CPS). Contributions are expected around the following topics: 1) Large data acquisition and transmission: This thread is related to how data is acquired, stored, pre-processed and transmitted at the sensors’ side. This involves, for instance, event-driven (non-periodic) techniques for signal processing, communications and control. Also, contributions related to new wireless networks (e.g., 5G and beyond) that are designed to supersede (or complement) wired solution are especially welcome. 2) Big data fusion: The focus is on algorithms employed by intelligent nodes based on machine learning techniques (e.g. data clustering, pattern recognition, neural networks). Contributions are expected to provide new techniques and insights of how to convert the received multi-stream raw or pre-processed data generated by different sources to useful information to guide short-term operational decisions related to the physical processes. 3) Big data analytics: The target here is how the already fused data can be further processed to, for example, detect operational failures, diagnose potential malfunctioning, or predict unexpected events. Contributions are expected in machine learning techniques for detection and prediction, data visualization, and actuation response mechanisms. Contributions are not limited to those topics, but all shall focus on industrial applications. This workshop utmost goal is to strengthen the still weak link between specialists in communications and the actual industrial communication needs, indicating more efficient solutions.
